Cross Stitch/Material not long enough

Question
Hi Angela!
I have run into a problem that I have never had before. While working on my current piece, I recently discovered that the material I am working on is not going to be quite long enough- I am going to need about 20 more squares- plus room to frame. I must have severely miscounted before I began. But I have put almost a month of work into this piece and I will do anything not to have to start over again. I do have another piece that I can attach to it, is there anyway that I can do this?

Thanks for your help!

Answer
Hello, Rowie

Unfortunately, you will need to start from the beginning again to ensure that the project is centered exactly, and to leave yourself amply room for framing the project once it's completed.

When you first start on a project, here's a method that I use... Always add an additional 12" to each number in inches.  For example... If a project is 8 1/2" x 13 3/4", you will need to add 12" to make it 20 1/2" x 25 3/4".  I was given a project to do for a friend of mine, which came complete with a lot of fabric to cut for this project, and I've added 12" to the project's size.  You will have about a 6" margin on all sides from framing.

My sincerest apologies for you having to start over.  I don't see any other way that you can continue with this as it is. :(

Sincerely,

Angela

I have 22+ years of cross stitching experience, which includes stitching on Aida, evenweave linen, vinyl canvas, and have stitched a design on a cotton t-shirt using waste canvas. I have also worked with beads and blending filament in quite a few projects. I have made many projects which include cross stitched mugs, a keychain, pictures, magnets, and the cotton t-shirt. I can answer questions pertaining to preparing and cleaning fabric, preparing clothing for stitching, how many threads to be used on which Aida cloth, and will try to help you to the best of my ability with other questions you may have. I am prompt in my responses and usually answer within 24 hours from when you ask your question. I look forward to helping you. :)
