Question
I am a cross stitcher and am interested in making a baby quilt using a stamped kit.  However, I have never worked with stamped cross stitch before.  When stitchin the quilt, do I insert the needle all the way through the quilt?  I am curious because then my stitches would show on the back side and felt that wasn't right.  I appreciate your help.

Answer
Hello Jennifer,

When stamped cross stitching a quilt there are two ways to go about it.

You can stitch in a way that your stitches don't show on the back side. The way you do this is by stitching just on the surface, taking your needle through to only the first layer of the quilt and back up again.

The other way is to stitch through all the fabric. Yes, your stitches will show on the back side. Many people solve this problem by adding a backing to the quilt which covers all their work.

There is no right or wrong way to do this. Choose what you feel most comfortable with.

I hope this helps.

Needlecrafts have been a part of my life for years. I sew, cross stitch, knit, crochet and bobbin lace, just to name a few. Cross stitch was one of the firsat crafts that I learned as a child and has stayed with me as a wonderful and peaceful artistic way to express myself.
