Question
I am trying to help my daughter with a cross stitch project for Jr. Beta Competition and I do not know how many pieces of thread to use for cross stitching.  I read in the book that you use two pieces of thread for tweeding, but how many pieces are you suppose to use for "just Plain" cross stitching?

Thank You for you help,

Cindy Young   hwy41farms@alltel.net

Answer
Hello Cindy,

Unless otherwise noted in the directions the standard is to use two strands of thread when cross stitching. If your daughter is using an 11 or 8 count Aida fabric then she can also get away with using three strands.

Just to clarify - each thread consist of six strands that you must seperate before using.

I hope this helps.

Needlecrafts have been a part of my life for years. I sew, cross stitch, knit, crochet and bobbin lace, just to name a few. Cross stitch was one of the firsat crafts that I learned as a child and has stayed with me as a wonderful and peaceful artistic way to express myself.
