Question
Hello I saw this 70s Brit apocalyptic cult B movie starring a lead that looks like a bearded cross of Oliver Reed, Alan Bates and Stanley Baker, only not as good. An (inter?)national catastrophe or virus or war happens and although the govt refuses to cause panic the upper middle class packs for their country homes, encountering militias and return to barbary. Great social thriller, pretty depressing in the vein of soylent Green. Any idea?

Answer
Hi Damien,

Apologies for the delay.

I will take a guess and say that the film you are looking for is the 1970's "No Blade of Grass".

A plot summary follows:

"A strange new virus has appeared, which only attacks strains of grasses such as wheat and rice, and the world is descending into famine and chaos. Architect John, along with his family and friends, is making his way from London to his brother's farm in northern England where there will hopefully be food and safety for all of them. Along the way, they encounter hostile soldiers, biker gangs, and all manner of people who are all too willing to take advantage of travelers for a mouthful of food."

The DVD is available from various online DVD retailers such as Amazon.com and ebay, etc.

I am a avid horror movie fan who grew watching Evil Dead, Re-Animator, Dawn Of The Dead, Return Of The Living Dead, Demons, Xtro, Night Of The Demons...etc. I have various Charles S. Balun books and other assorted horror guides for reference if needed. As well as horror/cult films, I watch a lot of drama - particularly British films.
