Question
Hi Popcorn Guy,
I'm doing a report on filmmaker George Romero (Dead films) for my film studies class, and I'm looking for some sources/books to help.  I'm trying to craft a thesis that states: "George Romero uses his zombie films as a platform for expressing his political views and critiquing American society."  Can you recommend some books or websites that talk about this? Thanks!!

Answer
Hi, Ryan...

First and foremost, go to www.georgearomero.com... this is his offical page, and he blatantly talks about his political views. Stephen King's "Danse Macabre" also has some commentary about the political undertones of the "Dead" films... Also, try David Skal's "The Monster Show." Great book about horror in general, but it does offer some theories, too... finally, check out a book called "The Cinema of George Romero" by Tony Williams. Probably the best book out there about Romero...

Hope this helps,

Expertise

I am a devout fan of horror films, from the Universal classics to the schlock of the 50`s, on through the 70`s to the splatter era, and straight up to "28 Days Later." Tom Savini films are an extra treat. Ask me about "Knightriders" if you don`t believe me. Anyone else own a copy of that classic?

Experience

Just a lifetime subscription to "Famous Monsters of Filmland," and another to "Fangoria."
