Cult Movies/Strange French ( i think ) film

Question
Somewhere  between 10 and 15 years ago , I watched a film , which i'm sure was french and was partially black and white , or totally black and white ( although it is a modern film )
The title of the film was " ? translated " The bookreader " , and it was all about this gorgeous blonde woman who lived in a village , and went about her day reading books to people while they sat and listened. Her listeners varied from men who had the hots for her and used her bookreading skills as an excuse to drool at her.
I would really love to find out what this film is called , so that i can buy it , because it just had a great feel to it , and the photography was awesome , and the blonde woman was beautiful. Its just one of those films you watch at 3am and it grips you although you dont really know why.

Please help because ive googled every combination of the words film , book , reader , and nothing is turning up at all. Its just a great piece of european cinema , and is a little strange.
It also had subtitles if thats a clue.
Thats all i know about it because i watched it so long ago , but i can definitely say its european and is about a blonde woman  who goes to peoples houses to read books to them -- hope i've given you enough information , and thanks in anticipation.

=)

Answer
Hi Chris,

I have just received the following information with regards that French film you enquired of me back in September 2006. An AllExperts reader (?) by the name of Demian kindly passed on the following:

"I think I have the answer. It's most likely the French movie La Lectrice (German title = Die Vorleserin), director Michel Deville, Miou-Miou playing the gorgeous reader."

So... not sure whether this is the film you're searching for or not, but thought would pass along anyway.

Best of luck,
Ryan
