Question
Hi, I saw these two movies in the late 80's - early 90's on T.V and was wondering if maybe you could help identify them?
The first one was about a boy who didn't do too well in school but was good with electronics. Under his bed there was another world and a strange man like creature would come up from under his bed and hang out with him at night. I remember the boy and his friends going to the school and taking a whole bunch of lights and batteries and wiring them up to make weapons against a demon that was causing chaos to the world under his bed. I'm not sure if I'm getting two movies mixed up here or not since it was some time ago but for some reason this seems to be how the movie unfolded.
The second movie is a movie about a boy who discovers a crashed UFO under the sand in the back of his house. Aliens threaten to take over the world if he doesn't do something about it. The main scene I remember clearly was the boy using a lucky penny to activate one of the alien's laser weapons and blasts a hole in the ship to escape. It turns out to be all a dream and he wakes up to the ship crashing into his yard.

If you can help me with either of these movies it would be much appreciated. Thank you and have a good day.

Sincerely,
   Ross

Answer
Hi, Ross...

Pretty sure the two films you are looking for are "Little Monsters" and "Invaders From Mars." Both are readily available on Ebay or amazon.com, if you want to relive those great memories... If you like "Invaders From Mars," though, you should also see the original. Much darker, less campy humor... it will spook you silly at times...

Hope this helps,

I am a devout fan of horror films, from the Universal classics to the schlock of the 50`s, on through the 70`s to the splatter era, and straight up to "28 Days Later." Tom Savini films are an extra treat. Ask me about "Knightriders" if you don`t believe me. Anyone else own a copy of that classic?

Just a lifetime subscription to "Famous Monsters of Filmland," and another to "Fangoria."
