Expert: Popcorn Guy - 4/25/2006

I think the movie I'm looking ofr was filmed in the 70's or early
80's.  It's set in the southern US (like Alabama or somewhere ike
that) and the time it's set in is maybe the 50's, early 60's.  It's
about a highschool guy who is popular, who falls in love with a
girl in his class who is poor and has no friends.  She's got curly
blond hair.  His friends become really angry at him for dating her
and not hanging around with them as much.  They catch her
alone in the woods one day and gang rape her and accidentally
kill her.  The police don't do anything so the guy who loves her
goes to the local bar where they are playing pool and attacks
them.  He beats one to death with a pool ball.  I think one of  the
last scenes is him driving his pick up truck to her grave and his
pickup bed is packed full of flowers.   Do you hve any idea what
I'm taklking about.  I've been looking for it for years!!!

Was this a TV movie or a theatrical release? It sounds very familiar, but I'm not placing it... can you tell me anything else about it? Actors, or where you may have seen them since? Anything? Send me a follow-up with any info you might be able to recall... there's something in your description that's "pinging" in my head, but I can't find it yet....
