Cult Movies/Was hoping you knew the title of this obscure horror/comedy?

Question
The title escapes me, but I recall very specific scenes from a horror-comedy that had a cult-classic feel to it.

It was horrible to watch, but great for laughs.

Hmm...things that stick out...a zombie flirting scene at a dinner table

A vicious rat that could be compared to the vorpal bunny of Monty Python

A priest that yells "I kick ass in the name of the Lord!" before whipping out martial arts on the undead horde

A lawnmower scene in which zombies are decimated...

No luck on internet searches...
it was in color, English dialogue, perhaps British production? (not sure)

Any help appreciated

Answer
Hi, BW...

The movie you're looking for is called "Braindead." It's also known in some areas as "Dead Alive." I'm pretty sure the American title is "Dead Alive." It has some hysterical moments, for sure! But it's also famous now because it was directed by Peter Jackson, the New Zealand-born genius that brought "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy to fruition. Who knew a zombie-film director could win the Oscar for hobbits and fairies and wizards and such?

You can find this movie on DVD, and it's not a hard find at all...

Hope this helps,

I am a devout fan of horror films, from the Universal classics to the schlock of the 50`s, on through the 70`s to the splatter era, and straight up to "28 Days Later." Tom Savini films are an extra treat. Ask me about "Knightriders" if you don`t believe me. Anyone else own a copy of that classic?
