Expert: Cindy Date: 9/19/2007 Subject: BLOOD IN MY DOGS URINE
Question My little miniature dachshund has had a urinary tract infection before but it was cleared and it she only seems to get it when she does exercise and goes on a good walk on a lead when she pulls on it quite a bit. Then she comes back and she wees continually but she has blood in her urine. Do you think she has stones in her urinary tract? This only happens when she pulls on her lead and does exercise. Really strange. Quite worrying but the vet keeps putting her on antibiotics for an infection but I don't think it is because it is always after exercise, does not make sense. Please please help!!
Answer This is beyond my experience, but I do have a couple of suggestions and I hope they help. Try using a halter rather than a collar - it is easier on them if they are pullers and is safer. Does she seem to be in pain, esp. when she urinates? The discomfort would probably be more than just when she wees. Dachshunds are one of the breeds prone to urinary tract infections. A vet is always the best person to ask for medical advise. Perhaps you can discuss these concerns with your vet or get a second opinion.
