Question
Who wore Dallas Cowboy jersey numbers 72,54,74,79,12,88, and 32 while Tony Dorsett was playing for the Dallas Cowboys? I have a framed picture of all 8 with Tony Dorsett signature, what would you think this is worth?

Answer
Janet:

My profile says I don't answer personal questions, so I changed my response to make it public.

Also, valuing collectibles is outside my expertise.  If you are a Cowboys fan, I suggest you enjoy your treasure and not worry about its value.  If you are an investor / collector, an item is only worth whatever a willing buyer and seller agree to.  If you want an idea, you could take your autographed photo to a baseball card shop and ask the owner if he or she can give you an estimate, or point you to someone who can.

As to the jersey numbers, Dorsett played with the Cowboys from 1977 to 1987.  During that time, the numbers you list were worn by:

12: Roger Staubach (1969-1979)
32: Dennis Thurman (1978-1983)
54: Randy White (1975-1988)
72: Ed Jones (1974-1989, except for 1979)
74: no one wore this number while Tony Dorsett was with the team; however, Bob Lilly wore it from 1961-1974; no one else has worn #74 since Lilly retired.
79: Harvey Martin (1973-83); John Hunt (1984); Sal Cesario (1987); Daryle Smith (1987-1988; Smith also wore #75)
88: Drew Pearson (1973-1983)

I hope this answers your question.

Expertise

My particular expertise is Dallas Cowboys history from 1960-1988 (the Landry era); I'm also a Cowboys book fanatic (I have almost 300 different Cowboys-related titles), and I also collect Cowboys football cards (but stopped in 93). But I am not an expert in the value of cards or collectibles – so please don't ask.

Before you ask: "So-and-so" almost certainly DID NOT PLAY for the Cowboys -- trust me! Before you ask me, ask the guy for proof!

Finally, I DO NOT ANSWER “PRIVATE” QUESTIONS! My work requires research, so the results must be made public.

Experience

I had a Cowboys webpage recognized around the Internet as the authoritative list of Cowboys links, and I have a Cowboys book collection second to none (approx. 300 titles). In addition to my book collection, I have every Cowboys media guide back to 1960, which makes researching questions much easier.
