About Duke Ha
Expertise I have extensive knowledge of the 1990's-Present Dallas Cowboys teams. Specifically, team uniforms, equipment, and so forth. I own numerous Cowboys memorabilia and would love to one day write a book on the evolution of the team's uniforms dating back to their inception in 1960. I may not be able to answer most Cowboys questions prior to the 1990's as I was but a youth at the time :-).
Experience I make annual trips to see the Cowboys at Texas Stadium. I have a library of Cowboys books, dvd's and VHS tapes. I have recorded nearly all games dating back since the 1998 season. I am an artist, so most of my collections such as cards and photos are not for value, but rather for reference. I appreciate the asthetics of the Cowboys and the game of football. As a hobby, I customize and paint McFarlane Dallas Cowboy figures to near exact detail as their live counterparts. I own several game used items, autographs, and roughly 10-12 authentic jerseys with 3 different manufacturers.
Publications I have no known publications. However, as of October 16, 2006, my written work and art has mostly been seen on the Wikipedia topic the Dallas Cowboys- uniforms/logos.
Education/Credentials Associates of Arts in Liberal Arts, Associates of Arts in Graphic Design, Bachelor of Arts in Studio Arts with emphasis in Illustration. My dream would be, of course, to work for the Dallas Cowboys organization possibly for their marketing and design team. The Dallas Cowboys annual bluebooks and game programs have always interested me.

Subject: 1993 Emmitt Smith Apex game used jersey
Question QUESTION: I have a game used jersey that I bought that is supposed to be a 1993 Emmitt Smith road jersey by Apex 1. The tagging says 'created exclusively for the Dallas Cowboys by APEX1.' My question to you is there is no year tag on this. I was wondering if you knew in 1993 if Emmitt Smith wore built in hand pockets in any of his road jerseys? Since it is not tagged with the year, do you know if Emmitt wore any built in pockets while with the Cowboys throughout his career, and are jerseys that are authentic for The Dallas Cowboys for that era supposed to be year tagged?
ANSWER: Hi Jill,
Nice jersey you purchased. Any game used memorabilia is always priceless, especially if it was worn by the NFL's All-Time leading rusher. To answer your question, to my knowledge I have never seen Emmitt wear built-in hand pockets in his jersey, BUT that doesn't mean he didn't. I have seen Troy Aikman numerous times, but Emmitt was someone I never figured needed it because during inclement weather games he tended to wear long sleeves and his hands were constantly protected by gloves, rather than Aikman.
Now if it was from the 1993 season as you say, then know that the Cowboys I believe only played three games in their dark jerseys that year against the Redskins, Cardinals, and Eagles. Emmitt did not play in the Redskins game due to a contract dispute and holdout. So if the jersey you own was worn anytime during a 1993 game, then it had to have come from the latter two games. My guess is it was worn at the Philadelphia Eagles game because it was pouring rain that day. That was also the day Emmitt had his best career rushing day finishing with 237 yards I believe.
Yes, jerseys from that era were generally tagged (not sure when that started) with the year followed by size, but over a decade has passed. It could have been planned to be re-used for the 1994 season but the idea was scrapped? Maybe the jersey you bought wasn't game worn but was issued to Emmitt in case he wanted built-in hand warmers? Really hard to say but I think what you got there is a beauty as built-in hand warmers are hard to find on any jersey these days. Plus it was manufactured by Apex One which did make the Cowboy jerseys from 1993, 1994 and parts of 1995 AND it probably has screen printed numbers so it was always a number 22 (rather than tackle twill stitched on numbers which can be removed and altered to a different player's number).
If you're concerned about it being game worn, then check closely for any hit marks and small tears to the shoulders as Emmitt was a runningback and those marks should be more frequent and easy to find. Otherwise, I wouldn't worry so much. For all intents and purposes, it more than likely is authentic. Hope that helps and thanks for asking!!!

1993 Thomas Everett Game-Worn Cowboys Jersey (w/Built-In Pockets)
Thomas Everett chose the big stage to showcase his talents. In Super Bowl XXVII, he grabbed two interceptions in an overwhelming victory as the Cowboys drubbed Buffalo, 52-17. Everett began 1992 wearing #31 (because his usual #27 had been issued to another player). But by the playoffs, Everett got his number back -- wearing #27 in '93 before moving on to Tampa Bay. Most likely, this jersey was worn by Everett in 1993. Built-in pockets are tailored on the sides for those cold-weather, late-season contests. Overall, the jersey evinces decent use with hit scrapes on the front and TV shoulder numerals, and more hit marks appear on the shoulder striping. Dazzle cloth shoulders support a mesh body. Tail tagging includes an Apex One Cowboys exclusivity tag and size "44" identifier.

Answer Hi Jill,
Perhaps, I wouldn't be surprised. Having pockets built in to your jersey would probably be more lighter and less bulky than wearing one of those hand warmer straps around the waist. Pretty interesting. Thank you again Jill!!
