About Fred Goodwin
Expertise
My particular expertise is Cowboys history from 1960-1988 (the Landry era); I'm also a Cowboys book fanatic (I have almost 200 different Cowboys-related titles), and I also collect Cowboys football cards (but stopped in 93). But I am not an expert in the value of cards or collectibles – so please don't ask.

Before you ask: "So-and-so" almost certainly DID NOT PLAY for the Cowboys -- trust me! Before you ask me, ask the guy for proof!

Finally, I DO NOT ANSWER “PRIVATE” QUESTIONS! My work requires research, so the results must be made public.

Experience
I had a Cowboys webpage recognized around the Internet as the authoritative list of Cowboys links, and I have a Cowboys book collection second to none (200 titles). In addition to my book collection, I have every Cowboys media guide back to 1960, which makes researching questions much easier.

Dallas Cowboys - 94 game issued E Smith jersey

Expert: Fred Goodwin - 1/27/2009

Question
Just wondering if you could verify how the cowboys identified their game
issued jerseys in 94.  The jersey I purchased from a memorabilia dealer in
Dallas "authenticated" it but am just wondering.  My jersey has a "94"stitched
next to the apex label at the bottom left on the front of the jersey along with a
very small "46" and an "L".  The front also has the 75th NFL anniversary
patch.  It is what I consider the traditional cowboy style jersey (white and blue
).  Compared to "store bought " jerseys of that era, the bottom of the jersey is
longer and the numbers and nameplate seem to be made of a little bit denser
material.  When I asked the dealer about this, he said that the game issued
jerseys were made this way for the names/numbers to stand out better on
televised games.

Please if you can shed some light on this for me I would greatly appreciate it.
By the way, Emmitt signed the jersey for me in 96 at the Chicago  Sun Times
card show in March of that year along with a SB XXVIII football.

Answer
Marcie:

I'm sorry, but I'm not really an expert on this sort of thing.

Would you mind sending your question to my friend, Duke Ha (he's the other Cowboys expert)?  He knows a lot more about jerseys than I do, and I'm sure he can give you the right answer.

Thanx for writing -- sorry I couldn't help.
