Dallas Cowboys/Valley Ranch

Question
I'm trying to gather information on the original construction and design of Valley Ranch.  Included I am looking for renovation information.  I have found very little on the web.  Specifically, what company designed and built Valley Ranch?  Where did the Cowboys practice before Valley Ranch?  How much did it cost to build Valley Ranch? And any other insight into Valley Ranch.

Regards,
Jamie

Answer

Jamie:

I'm afraid I can't help you much with the history of Valley Ranch.  You might try contacting the management association and see if they can help you:

Before they moved to Valley Ranch, the Cowboys had a practice facility near the intersection of Forest Lane and LBJ Freeway (Loop 635) in far north Dallas.

In fact, a nearby hotel overlooked the practice facility and it was rumored that Rams (and later Redskins) coach George Allen would spy on Cowboy practices from the hotel.  That might explain why the Cowboys decided to move out to Irving!

Hope this answers at least part of your questions.

Expertise

My particular expertise is Dallas Cowboys history from 1960-1988 (the Landry era); I'm also a Cowboys book fanatic (I have almost 300 different Cowboys-related titles), and I also collect Cowboys football cards (but stopped in 93). But I am not an expert in the value of cards or collectibles – so please don't ask.

Before you ask: "So-and-so" almost certainly DID NOT PLAY for the Cowboys -- trust me! Before you ask me, ask the guy for proof!

Finally, I DO NOT ANSWER “PRIVATE” QUESTIONS! My work requires research, so the results must be made public.

Experience

I had a Cowboys webpage recognized around the Internet as the authoritative list of Cowboys links, and I have a Cowboys book collection second to none (approx. 300 titles). In addition to my book collection, I have every Cowboys media guide back to 1960, which makes researching questions much easier.
