About Fred Goodwin
Expertise
My particular expertise is Cowboys history from 1960-1988 (the Landry era); I'm also a Cowboys book fanatic (I have almost 200 different Cowboys-related titles), and I also collect Cowboys football cards (but stopped in 93). But I am not an expert in the value of cards or collectibles – so please don't ask.

Before you ask: "So-and-so" almost certainly DID NOT PLAY for the Cowboys -- trust me! Before you ask me, ask the guy for proof!

Finally, I DO NOT ANSWER “PRIVATE” QUESTIONS! My work requires research, so the results must be made public.

Experience
I had a Cowboys webpage recognized around the Internet as the authoritative list of Cowboys links, and I have a Cowboys book collection second to none (200 titles). In addition to my book collection, I have every Cowboys media guide back to 1960, which makes researching questions much easier.

Question
Am I just dreaming or was the "Battle of New Orleans" song rewritten for one of the Cowboys superbowl victories?  Seems like one of the lines of the song was "...and Lilly chased him to the 10th and laid him on his chest...".  Who rewrote this and where can I find it?

Answer
[July 5 update]

The following partial lyrics are courtesy of Cowboys superfan Raul Villaronga:

It was early January and the Cowboys just went down
For their 2nd shot at Super Bowl in ole New Orleans town.
They came to play the Dolphins from down Miami way
The umpire fired his pistol and the game was underway.

The Dolphins took the kick and they began a-running
Trying to make their way to the Dallas Cowboys' goal.
They made just seven yards and the Dolphins had to punt it.
The Cowboys started out gonna win the Super Bowl.

I'll post more as I find it.

Fred

Jimmy:

Sorry I don't know anything about it.
