I also have discovered that i need to leave the hip hop questions alone as i've been out of the hip hop arena for over 17 years.

Question I have always heard this song was done by Wild Cherry and when I looked it up I found a video by them singing it. My husband thought it was K.C. and the Sunshine Band. I pulled that up and it says they did it and wrote the lyrics to it. I know Wild Cherry recorded it. Did K.C. also record it? I clicked on a video that was supposedly by K.C. and it was the SAME version (same voice, everything) as the Wild Cherry one. I thought maybe K.C. started out as Wild Cherry then created the other band, but on each of their websites the other is not mentioned. I am very confused!!!
Answer I personally have never heard of a version of 'play that funky music' by Kc and the sunshine band. Most likely what you ran across on youtube was a mislabeled file. It happens quite often to me. However, i'm not gonna make a claim that K.c. has never performed the song in concert. If by some chance you find out otherwise that the two groups are connected, then youre one up on me.
