I have a question and I'm not too sure if it's related to database but i'm just wondering what is knowledge and what is knowledge management and why are these important to today’s knowledge economy and to IT professionals.
Do you know of an example of where an organization has achieved value from a Knowledge management initiative
I would just like to get an opinion from you to learn more about knowledge.
Thanks again =)
Answer Sue,
You are right in that Knowledge Management does not have anything directly to do with database management but it may have an indirect impact.
Knowledge Management is not a specific product or even a specific technology. It is like saying Case Tools or IDEs. It is a concept that is implemented through a whole collection of methodologies or toolsets. It is an emerging field and therefore even the definitions are fluid currently, but it is beginning to get noticed in the industry and adoption is starting to increase.
So, what is Knowledge Management? It is the concept where you embed "knowledge" in all aspects of a firm's activities, and make knowledge a prime driver in its operations.
It talks about processes used to gather new knowledge from internal and external sources, using this intelligently in decision making in the organization, disseminating knowledge throughout the organization, making it easily accessible and managing the update and upkeep of the knowledgebase with the changes in the information.
