Good research.  Thanks for the tips.  I have tried everthing, including DOS emulator modes.  I may have no choice but to push the customer into migrating old data to current version of Sage PFW ERP.

Question -
Do you have BTRIEVE data engine tuning experience?

I have a ten year old DOS based accounting package called ¡°Platinum Accounting v4.6¡± which works fine on a V-E-R-Y S-L-O-W WinNT machine, but it is time to migrate to a new PC.   While the program does launch on a WinXP Pro system, it crashes everywhere it needs to read/write to a file with BTRIEVE error #81.    My guess is that the code executes so fast on newer CPUs that the system never has enough time to write a lock file to disk?

Ted,

Although I am not expert at Btrieve I can tell you that a quick search showed this

which claims that Btrieve /probably/ works under Win XP.

Sorry can't be of substantive help here. Suggest you look for a bulletin board of Btrieve users which may get more specific help.

I'm surprised you're being left high and dry like this, especially given the info I saw about at least some limited support being available for this software on the newer Windows OS'.

I would at least contact the co and explain the problem and see what they may be able to suggest, if anything.
