Question We are a private golf club in a retirement community in Sun Lakes AZ. We have approx 500 members and a proprietary DOS based program to manage handicaps, manage tournaments, assign tee starts, track winnings, put together teams for tournaments by handicap, print scorecards etc. etc.
Currently the system is working fine but we would be more comfortable if the program were running on a windows platform. Can you advise?
Answer Dear Frank: You have hit on a sore spot with me. I am a DOS man, primarily because it will never produce an error. It NEVER makes a mistake. However, Windows systems are much more versatile. So you must answer the question yourself. If you see a problem with it, then change to Windows. If it is slow enough to cause your operating system to make it awkward, then switch to Windows. However, if you really, as you say works well for you, do not be talked into changing. Apply the old saying, "if it works don't fix it".
Go to a computer store where they good technical help and tell him what you said to me. Then ask him to demonstrate a Windows-based system. Then decide.
