Question
Hello, I was just wondering if you could explain the meaning behind the song Satellite.  I've heard that it is a love song, but i'm not sure if that's true.  But i guess what i'm looking for is an explanation in detail (like what the actual words represent) and not just a summary of the whole song.  Thanks very much!

Answer
It is a love song, you can see it in the lyrics, some are a little odd and confusing. It's kind of pointless to go through line by line, because songs are so repetative, and there arn't hidden meanings in the lines of this particular song. The lyrics are there and the meaning of them in ().

Satellite in my eyes (the girl he adores)
Like a diamond in the sky (standing out in the crowd)
How I wonder. (?)
Satellite strung from the moon (?)
And the world your balloon (like the world is her oyster)
Peeping tom for the mother station (indicating he watches her)
Winter's cold spring erases (makes his bad days better)
And the calm away by the storm is chasing (When she's gone he's unhappy)
Everything good needs replacing (pretty self explanitory)
Look up, look down all around, hey satellite

Satellite, headlines read (pretty self explanitory)
Someone's secrets you've seen (she knows someone's secrets, maybe his)
Eyes and ears have been (?)
Satellite dish in my yard (might have something to do with the secrets)
Tell me more, tell me more (pretty self explanitory)
Who's the king of your satellite castle? (asking if she has anyone)

Winter's cold spring erases (same as before)
And the calm away by the storm is chasing (same as before)
Everything good needs replacing (same as before)
Look up, look down all around, hey satellite (same as before)
Rest high above the clouds no resrictions (on her own level, nothing can hold her back)
Television we bounce 'round the world (?)
And while I spend these hours (?)
Five senses reeling, (all senses are noticing her)
I laugh about the weatherman's satellite eyes. (no clue)

Satellite in my eyes (same as before)
Like a diamond in the sky (same as before)
How i wonder. (same as before)
Satellite strung from the moon (same as before)
And the world your balloon (same as before)
Peeping tom for the mother station  (same as before)

Winter's cold spring erases (same as before)
And the calm away by the storm is chasing (same as before)
Everything good needs replacing (same as before)
Look up, look down all around, hey satellite (same as before)

Rest high above the clouds no restrictions (same as before)
Television you bounce from the world (same as before)
And while I spend these hours (same as before)
Five senses reeling (same as before)
I laugh about this world in my satellite eyes. (light hearted about his admirations for her)

So there it is line by line, it's a song about admiration, some people say stalking, but I guess it really just depends on your preception.

I can Answer any questions about lyrics, songs, albums, or pretty much any questions about the band, but my strong subject is lyrics and songs.

Experience

I have been an avid Dave listener for four years, my brother got me into his music, we went to his last concert here together, I have all of his albums including Boyd's True Reflections, and can name almost all of his songs when i hear only about ten seconds or less of them.
