Question
I was just wondering what your personal interpretation on the outstanding song "satelite" would be...

Answer
Hey Whitney,

First off please let me apologize for my extremely slow response! I feel horrible. I've been so busy latley that I've had a difficult time finding a chance to sit down and respond. Bt anyways heres your answer...

Ok. Try not to look to closely into this one. It is really about how society is changing everyday as far as technology is concerned. But we never become overwhelmed with it really. We jsut accept it and keep on living. Where we were always such simple creatures that would hunt and gather etc. But now weve maken our existance so dependant on technology. Dave uses a satellite just as an example of the technology.

Winter's cold spring erases
And the calm away by the storm is chasing
Everything good needs replacing
Look up, look down all around, hey satellite

The first two lines of the chorus represent the passage of time. Spring erases the cold days of winter. And then the calm before storms of summer are chasing after that. "everything good needs replacing" is talking of how we have all this amazing technology but we never seem to be satisfied. We need better and bigger and louder! So you buy a new computer. But its not good enough. You replace it with something new! The last line represents how technology is all over. You look up down all around and hey there it is!

Satellite, headlines read
Someone's secrets you've seen
Eyes and ears have been
Satellite dish in my yard
Tell me more, tell me more
Who's the king of your satellite castle?

This part of the song makes a reference of how we use a lot of our technology today. We use it mainly for information and then we become addicted to it. We just want more and more. So we spend our hard earned money on these investments to get that info. Like a satellite dish.

Rest high above the clouds no resrictions
Television we bounce 'round the world
And while I spend these hours
Five senses reeling,
I laugh about the weatherman's satellite eyes.

Television we bounce around the world is just speaking of how we can pretty much go around the worl just channel surfing. Flipping channels and such. the next 3 lines here is where Dave is just pondering about technology. And then a weather man comes on TV and uses all this technology to give the forcast when man so long ago would simply use thier senses to figure the weather patterns out. And its just somewhat funny to him.

That is pretty much the whole song. Hopfully I explained that well enough. I hope I did. If I didnt please let me know and I promise I will try my best to clear anything up for ya. Ha and in a somewhat timely manner also!

Myke

P.S. The song "Satellite" actually came from a song called 'After Her". The songs music and chorus were just the same as "Satellite" but the lyrics were more of a love song. No one knows for suer why Dave changed the ong. He has said that its because he forgot the lyrics. Which I personnaly doubt myself. Another rumor is that the badn asked him to change the lyrics up some because a lot of his songs revolved around that love song type of theme. But who knows. Dave has asid that he wrote "Satellite" for his mother. Just some FYI.

Expertise

To be honest, you say not to use the words "all" or "anything" but that pretty much sums it up. But I will list the topics that I can answer anyway: - Song Interpretations - Concert Info - Info on specific members of the band - Any questions about the bands early days and also any concerning the band as of right now - Daves guitar music - Discography Theres plenty more but they mainly fall into those categories.

Experience

Ive read books and watch documentaries concerning the bands history including how they formed, who they we involved with, etc. Ive been to concerts and am always searching the net for new news about the band. I have met some of the band members and also people on the crew. I also play guitar and can answer just about any questions that have to do with Dave's songs or writting style.
