I think I understand what this song is about, but is it from anything specific in Dave's life? A heartbreaking relationship?

Answer
Yeah as far as the songs meaning, it is pretty straight forward. But unfortunatley I have not heard Dave talk too much about his solo album and the songs meanings. I know he said he had been working on the album for quite a while and pulling songs together over time that didn't quite fit in with the rest of the band. So who knows when Dave could have actually written this song. Although, the song may be sprung from a long time relationship with a girl named Julia Grey who he asked to marry 3 times. All of which she declined. Now if getting turned down three times by someone you love isn't heartbreaking, then I don't know what is.

To be honest, you say not to use the words "all" or "anything" but that pretty much sums it up. Ive read books and watch documentaries concerning the bands history including how they formed, who they we involved with, etc. Ive been to concerts and am always searching the net for new news about the band. I have met some of the band members and also people on the crew. I also play guitar and can answer just about any questions that have to do with Dave's songs or writting style.
