Hello! I'm a huge DMB fan and just recently a friend of mine, who's also a fan of DMB, mentioned that one of Dave's sisters was murdered, back when they lived in Africa. In relation to that, I'd just like to know more about the incident and how Dave coped with the loss of his sister, as I am now mourning the death of my mother.

Hi Katie,
I'm sorry to hear about your mother.  I'm sure she was dearly loved and will be missed.

As for Dave, in early 1994 his sister Anne was murdered by her husband, who then turned the gun on himself.  They were living in South Africa at the time.  Their two children came to America, and Dave and his sister Jane took responsibility for them.

There were a number of concerts cancelled in January 94 while Dave was in South Africa with his family, and a period of mourning afterwards.  The first concert back was a Dave and Tim concert, and Dave mentions that he had just gotten back from South Africa to be with his family and attend to business surrounding his sister's death.

If you own the album "Under the Table and Dreaming", look under the spot where the CD goes.  There is a picture of Dave and Jane there and the words "In Memory of Anne".
