Dave Matthews Band/oh and grace is gone - song meaning

Grace is a word, not a a name. It means his dignity is gone. After the break up, he is drunk and he is thinking about her. Grace means elegance, and he lost it.

In the radio city music hall with Tim he said this was about his grandpa who fought in the war against Rommel

If you listen to "Oh" on Dave & Tim, Live at Radio City, before the song begins, Dave says, "This song is about my grandfather."

Dave wrote "Sister" for his sister Anne that was murdered.  Obviously "The Song That Jane Likes" is for his other sister Jane. I've often wondered who Grace is? I know he has a daughter named Grace, but it wasn't quite fitting for the songs. Your theory makes perfect sense. Thank you for sharing it.

I have a wide range in knowledge when it comes to DMB. I feel I can answers questions ranging from the names of the band members children, to questions about song titles. My mind is a wasteland for information on DMB.

I have been a fan of DMB since 1994. Attended too many live shows to count and met the band on several occasions. I own all the studio albums everything from Remember Two Things to Some Devil. I also have countless amounts of bootleg shows.
