Answer When Dave was just getting started with his music, a guy named Ross Hoffman was helping him out. When dave started making money, he began giving Ross royalties. But when dave really hit it big, he gave ross a lump sum, and that was the end of it. After awhile, Ross took dave to court for more money. The case was settled out of court, but this deeply upsetted dave cause him and ross had been good friends. so the song is about that, and documents that.
