Answer Hi Todd,
I don't trade Berkshire Hathaway stock but I tried to enter a trade(BRK/A)in my Options Express platform and there were no restrictions. Just to doublecheck I contacted them and they said that trades can be traded electronically and don't need to be placed by phone.
It sounds like this might be a limitation of your current broker. Be careful on the spread with that one. ;)
