Deafness/Hearing Impairment - reading lips

Expert: Dr. Jerry Martin Jr. - 11/16/2008

Question
hi. my question is if there is an institute in us that can teach deafs how to read the lips language. i mean how to read the movement of lips while others talking so they do not need to use the signe language.

Answer
Hi,

It is interesting question, but no.  You can go to speech-language therapist who can train you with movements of lips and lip reading skills instead using sign language.

Usually health insurance do not cover it because it is not health related.  You may have to make payment arrangements to get speech therapy.

You have a nice day.

Doc Jerry
