Question
Wife, 85,has bad hearing in one ear. Dr says plugged with earwax. Usual cleaning methods by nurse didn't work last time so Dr says put 9 drops/day of docosate sodium liquid in ear (exact stuff I use in pill form as stool softenener) Label on prescription says TAKE WITH PLENTY OF WATER amd we jokinly wonder if water goes in ear or mouth. Ear still hears very little. So I searched the net for OTC remedies an d was flabbergasted to find 90% involved  candles in dozens in many  scents and prices from $10 to $100. Is that safe? Sounds dangerous. We want to avoid free hearing tests that always start and end with "You must have aids in each ear at $2000 each. I use a $300 beind the ear type that works fine except in crowds.I see I am taking too much of your time sowillstop with thanks.

Answer
Hi Mr. Kiewel,

Please don't believe about candles and it is very dangerous.  Ear drops should work afterwards and try water pressured cleaning again.  If it does not work.  Try to have an ear specialist to exract the wax out of her ear.  It may restore her hearing to 100%.

Good luck and have a good one.
