Question Hello,
Never in my life would I have tagged myself as a jealous girlfriend but when it comes to my current boyfriend, I have a problem. He is a very flirtatious, very good looking guy with way more dating and sexual experience than myself. I just don't know how to react when he sees old "friends" (whom I don't know if they've slept together or what) and picks them up and hugs them and gives them kisses on the cheeks, and is so excited to see them. It makes me very uncomfortable. It don't think he would ever cheat on me, but he did break-up with me once because I was being very depressed and I am always afraid that it could happen again. We've been together for about 15 months and things are good now, I just hate feeling jealous and insecure! Here's hoping you can send a bit of advice my way.
Also, I would appreciate you not judging my relationship, I would just like advice on what to do when I'm feeling jealous in these situations!
Thanks a bunch!!!
Answer Hi Selena,
It does not sound like you are a jealous person; I think any woman in your situation would feel uncomfortable seeing their boyfriend 'pick up' and 'hug' another woman in that manner. It really just boils down to a matter of respect, not jealousy. I have no doubt your boyfriend loves you and is in no way purposely trying to offend you. If he understands his overly-friendliness makes you uncomfortable then maybe he can adjust it, just a little, for you.
As far as feeling depressed and insecure, keep in mind that YOU have this gorgeous boyfriend (and from what you tell me, probably a lot of women pine after him), but he chose to be in a relationship with you. So that tells me you have SOMETHING going on. I would assume you are smart, beautiful, funny, and a great person. Only a person like you could attract a person like your boyfriend. Stand proud of who you are and enjoy the jealousy the other women are probably feeling when they see you two together :)
