How to Deal with Jealousy/How to Make One Jealous - My girlfriends away for 4 months and im really jelous

Expert: PracticalHappiness.com - 9/4/2007

Question
Hi, so I've been with my girl for 1 year and 5 months and she decided to go study abroad in Hong Kong. I am very in love with her and she is with me too, i totally trust her but i know she can be a huge flirt! She recently went to a welcoming party the school had and then joined a bunch of guys at a bar afterwards, she mentioned that there was some flirting involved and it really got to me. I know this will happen again since she'll be gone for 4 months. Please tell me how i can cope with this jealousy issue for 4 months.

Answer
Hi, Diego. The key to overcoming jealousy in this case is in REALIZING that your jealousy is pointless. Look - what keeps your girlfriend around you is her DESIRE to be with you and nothing else. If that goes away, then the relationship is over. If the desire to be there is mutual, she will be with you even if she is friendly and social with other guys, which is totally ok. You must enjoy your relationship, trust your girlfriend and assume the best until and unless you have real reasons not to, but at the same time remember that things can happen and the relationship might be over. And guess what - there will be life afterwards. Don't take me wrong. I don't suggest that you should be anticipating a break-up; I only suggest that you realize that jealousy has no utility and accept that whatever happens, will be for the best.

Thanks, and I hope this helps. If not, please follow up. And if you found my answer helpful, please rate me on this site and comment on my work.
