QUESTION: i have just met this new guy, and he seems really nice, but hes older then i am, about 4 years older, hes 21 and i'm 17. what if his friends act weird around me? what should i do about it? should i care what they think or should i just do what i want to do?

ANSWER: Hey, Caitlin. I don't think you should be concerned about this. Your age difference is significant, considering the fact that you are both very young, but it's your business and only yours. If someone doesn't like you or makes you feel uncomfortable about it, it's their problem and not yours. I would hope that your guy has "cool" friends who would accept you for who you are and not so much your age.

Hi, Caitlin. If the opinion of his friends fully determines his own actions and he has no independent judgment of his own, then I would seriously doubt his value as a romantic partner. In other words, if he is so concerned with what others think, he is not yet ready to date.
