ANSWER: Hi Andy

Thanks for sharing with me.

You don't say how old you are or how much experience you have so please feel free to ask me more questions if you want to via the follow up question option.

The truth is that there are no real ill-effects of masturbation.

Talk of going blind, growing hair on your palms etc are silly old wives' tales that attempt to scare people (especially young boys) from masturbation.

There has been a lot of research done into sexuality since the 60s and it has been found that masturbation can help people get in touch with their sexual responses and as along as they take their time and don't rush it, it can help them become more sensitive lovers when they are with a partner.

The basic rules are these:

1. Only do it some where private where there is a lock on the door.

2. Use only techniques that do not cause pain.

3. Only use naturally occurring lubricants eg saliva, oil or proper water based lubes.  Liquid soap, shampoos etc can be very irritating for some people.

4.  Never insert anything into the head of the penis.  Never.

5.  Only masturbate as many times as your body can cope with.  The refractory period between erections varies with age and people: it is the body's way of recuperating between sexual activity.

6.  Be aware of the entire penis is sensitive, not just the shaft.  Allow yourself exploration of the feelings generated in the head of the penis as well as touching the scrotum.  Use both hands and notice the difference.  See how long you can last by building up to ejaculation then stopping, letting the moment pass, then building up tempo to the point of no return again and again until you want to ejaculate.  It is possible to do this for ages depending on how much time you have.

7. Daily masturbation can after sperm count, but it is only an issue if you and a partner are trying for a baby and your lab measured sperm count is already low; in  which case it is not recommended to have any sexual activity before having sex.

8.  Masturbation cannot affect anyone other than yourself.  Beware that feeling guilty about masturbation and obsessive masturbation is not helpful.

Keep yourself busy with physical and mental work and keep up contacts with other people and all is well.

I hope this helps, remember about the follow up question option.

I wish you well.

Pete.

Answer
Hi Andy

Thanks for the extra information.

Semen is definitely not made of blood!  That is an old wives' tale.  See this link for more information about semen:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semen

I'm not sure what you mean by "when I masturbate to excess I feel ill".

It is a fact that if you don't eat well, don't get enough exercise and you have lots of negative thoughts running loose in your mind that you have a high chance of being ill.

Masturbation is not at fault!

It is more likely to be your guilt and fears!  So remind yourself it is ok to masturbate and have a healthy attitude towards yourself and your sexuality.

If you are very prone to colds etc you should make sure that you are eating well and taking if needed a high quality multivitamin specifically for men.  A health food shop can help with this.  Herbs like garlic, astralagus and olive leaf are very good to build up the immune system to fight colds and flu's etc.

I hope this helps, if need be feel free to ask a a follow up question.

I wish you well

Pete
