Question
Can depression or stress affect your horomones

Answer
Hi Cornell

Thanks for sharing with me.

The short answer to your question is absolutely!  When people feel depressed or stressed for any reason, be it minor or major reasons, it can seriously after their hormones.

Some people seem to develop a hyped up libido (very common in bipolar disorder for example) or diminished libido (very common in clinical depression).

We need to remember that the primary function of sexual activity is for the continuation of the species, the secondary function is the providing of profound intimate pleasure.  Therefore, if for one reason or another, we are not happy, there is a good chance that either we are not going to be interested in sex for a while...or focus in on sex to gain some pleasure during a rough time.

In both extremes, support is available from partners, doctors etc.  Anti-depressants are notorious for killing of libido in many users.

Counselling can be most helpful and so too relaxation techniques.

I hoped the above is helpful.  If you need for information, feel free to drop me a line via the follow up question option.

I wish you well.

Pete.
