Question
I am so happy because I got hired by a cement company plant in Caracas and I need you to give me some advice to have a successful development. 2 years ago I got hired by a company but I think my mistakes were the following:
*I talked without thinking and my boss advised me to think before talking.
*I begun to read a lot about everything related to my job (Industrial Safety) and that was a mistake because I should have read about my specific job in that specific Plant.
*I was considered a a rude person with a strong character.
Two years later when the contract was over I was "fired" from the company.
From tomorrow on, I will learn the specific matters concerned to this specific job in stead of being Reading and reading over and over about all topics related to industrial safety.
Thanks for your opinion.
Ivan

Answer
Ivan,

Stopping the reading of information about your industry is a mistake.  That is not the problem that you are experiencing.  The place you want to focus your efforts on is people skills and leadership skills.  Managers what people who think and have ideas, however, they don't want people who think that they know it all and are uncoachable.

I assume that your expertise has made it to where you are a go-to person in a lot of different areas.  What sometimes happens, is that people who we work with see our confidence as arrogance and stand-offishness.

Try adding a couple of additional books to your reading list.  Try How to Win Friends and Influnce People, Skill with People, and How to have Confidence and Power in Dealing with People.

Any of those will be able to help you.
