Question
Hello:

I will be resigning from my job on a set date of 7/31, and I am planning on
telling my boss 3 weeks ahead.  We have small office and only 3 people
including my boss working in it.  How do i tell my boss the news when
everyone will hear what we say.  I am thinking of writing a letter and just
leave it on his desk on a friday.  Or even email.

What would you suggest in this situation?

Thank you very much for your time in answering my question.

Answer
Will --

You need to turn in your resignation in person, not in a letter or a (shudder) email.

Email your boss, or catch him at work early, and tell him you need to speak to him privately. Believe me, your boss will want to get this news privately, also. Maybe the two of you can go for coffee. Then tell him. You may want to follow up with a formal letter (again, no email) and you could even have it ready to hand to him AFTER you talk.

Best wishes on your new job.

Joan
