Question
Hi Mark,

I'm a 14 year old boy but I have a crush on a girl that lives by me. She's the
only person close to my age who lives by me, and we hang out as friends a
lot. What I need to know is, is it normal to have a crush on someone with a
3-year age difference, and what should I do about it?

Answer
Hi Tyler.

I guess its normal to have a crush. Everyone has crushes, you can't help who you have a crush on.

You said that you hang out a lot so you could choose to just stay friends, hang out and enjoy each others company.

You may choose to ask her out if you want to try to become boy friend /girl friend. But be warned that things can turn complicated if you try to cross the friendship line. She might not like you back the same way and if you break up, it might cost you your friendship.

Also when you enter a relationship there are a lot more pressures than if you just remain friends. If you just remain friends, you don't have to worry about much and can just concentrate on having fun.

So you could try asking her out if you want but before you do, think very carefully about what you would be getting into and consider whether or not just staying as friends would be better
