About Kimberly
Expertise
Hi, I have suffered through years of depression and the many disorders that come with it. It is a very scary experience and hard at times to get through the day. But I have now gotten to the other side of the pain and found hope and courage and life. I want to be a person you can feel comfortable talking to, and in talking with me that you can feel at ease knowing that I have been there and I do understand. I want to be a friend and listen and I will do my very best to ease the feelings you feel and help you in your journey to a better happier life. You are not alone and I would love to be there to help you fight.

Experience
My greatest accomplishment is knowing that I have been there and today, I'm here to help others in their healing. The biggest accomplishment lies in those who write for help in so doing they are taking a huge step in their healing! I am currently a student in Psychology, and have been certified in Crisis prevention since 2001.

Question
"i have been put on seroquel for anxiety plus mirtazapine can you let me know the side effects of coming off these medications as i believe i was wrongly diagnosed as delusional and psychotic. Doctors tried to fool me into thinking i was put on them for anxiety i am on 60mg of mirtazapine a day and 25mg of seroquel. I have been on these meds for around 9 weeks, my anxiety has not improved but gotten worse and now i actually do feel depressed i was on ativan and had a seizure after coming off it under a drs guidance. does this make me more likely to have problems coming off stated drugs? Is seroquil really used for anxiety and if not psychotic can it cause me to become so by going off it? How can a dr get things so wrong all i was suffering was extreme anxiety i am 55 yrs of age and have never had a mental illness unless you count anxiety as such. Are the two drugs safe to take together? I have found this has ruined my life and some days cannot think straight mainly due to the worry of being put on them. Can i safely cut the mirtazapine down to 30mgs? Thank you for any help you may offer Angie"

Answer
Seroquel has multiple functions(OCD, Anxiety, Borderline Personality and Bipolar Disorder); it is a mood stabilizer and is also used as a sleep aid.  It is safe to use those two drugs, but if you are getting worse I would advise talking to your doctor right away to get adjusted.  Never stop taking drugs like these without the guidance of your doctor; it can cause severe health problems.  But it shouldn’t make you feel worse. There are a lot of different medications that you can take to stabilize the anxiety that will be less addictive.

Side effects:
Stomach issues.
Sleep disturbances
Nervousness
Dizziness
And increased suicide attempts

With the Remeron (mirtazapine) used mostly for major depressive disorders.
It seems that the biggest issue it stomach issues and some sleep issues.

Because you’ve had trouble coming off medication, it is more likely that you’ll have more issues, but not a for sure thing… depends on your body chemistry.

Check with your doctor and have him/her switch medications, there are so many that are effective in treating anxiety.

Best,
Kim
