Question I am the director of an english institute for efl students, I have 13 teachers under my supervision. I have tried in every way possible for them to be more comitted to their responsibilities as educators, I have even offered many opportunities in extra activities for extra income such as tutories, translations, resource design, and it seems like nothing is enough, they are always tired or don't do things they're suppose to do or are always complaining. I have had motivational talks, I have invited over professionals for teacher's training and the truth is I think that I might have to let some of them go or definitively it's me that my expectations are too high. HELP!!!
Answer Terry Marie,
Realize first that the reason that you are in the leadership position and they are not is that you have the drive and determination that they lack. Don't expect them to be perfect, but when you catch them moving in the right direction, praise them. People will support a world that they help create, so try to get them involved in the idea part of the planning. If they come up with the idea, they are more likely to follow through with it. If all of the ideas are coming from you, they just see cahnge as being more work for them.
