I'm a fourth-year student who is willing to help. I`ve dealt with all kinds of problems in my first four yrs and am only too happy to help out any new students out there who could benefit from an older students advice. I can NOT anwer legal questions.

Experience

Dealing with Roommates - 3br house, me, my partners and our son.... and our roommate

Expert: Sarah - 2/11/2007

Question
My partner and I have a son. We live in a 3 bedroom home in which we are subletting to our roommate. She is using the Internet, gas, electric, water, and trash service. Those all come out to just over $400 a month. I asked her to pay $150 and she said "that's too steep". Am I being unreasonable here???

Answer
As there are four of you in the house utilities should be split equally between the four people.  Therefore for utilities you should be asking her for $100 a month and your family should pay the remaining $300 a month since there are three of you.
Hope this helps
