Question I was diagnosed with depression about 6 years ago. Since then I've changed meds multiple times. Effexor worked great, but when I lost my insurance I could no longer afford it. What a nightmare!! I finally found a doc that gave me Prozac and Klonopin for anxiety attacks. It was such a huge relief to finally feel "normal" again. Two weeks ago I had to have my gall bladder removed and was on painkillers for a total of three weeks. When I stopped taking the pain meds I couldn't eat and when I did I would vomit. I also started feeling very anxious. I left the ER lastnight with two anti-nausea medicines and I'm on a soft/liquid diet. This seems to be helping, but my anxiety is not going away, even when I take a Klonopin. (Which has always worked to calm me down). I can only sleep for a couple hours at a time and I'm starting to feel very overwhelmed. I still do not have any insurance or a regular family care doctor. Is this post surgical stress? Should I expect this to get better soon? I know the logical answer would probably be to go see a doctor, but I cannot afford to especially after 3 visits to the hospital in 4 weeks. I am following up with my surgeon next week, but I'm afraid he won't have any helpful information regarding my anxiety. Any suggestions or just words of reassurance would be very helpful. Thanks!!
Answer Hi Rene,
You have been stable for a while, so it would seem that this recent episode has been sparked off by something. Presumably the surgery.
I would think in a few weeks - if it is post surgery stress - that you will be back to feeling your old self.
I don't think there is any need to revisit your medical practitioner.
If you still find in 3 or 4 weeks that you are overanxious, then that would be the time to visit a professional.
Let me know how you get on over the next few weeks.
If you need anything else, just let me know.
Warm regards,
Jame P.S. If you want, find yourself a good self hypnosis program to help ease the stress and anxiety. And play daily till the stress has reduced.
