Question
Hi. Im 15 and i've been dealing with stress for a long time about everything. Is it that unhealthy to start taking stress relieve pills when i'm at my age? Will if interupt my school work? I've tried everything from taking bubble baths, reading books, but nothing is taking my mind off my troubles. If anything it makes me feel worse, because i constantly keep thinking about everything. It's affecting my school work and my sleeping habits. Is it even legal for me to take the pills? Should i take the pills? I am running out of ideas and starting to feel very paranoid and nervous every second of the day. Please help

Answer
Hi Susan,

It is difficult when you have stresses with important work like school work that needs doing.

What you need is someone to talk to to share your worries.

What you need to do for yourself is find someone to talk to to help you through this very difficult time.  You will find it difficult to cope alone, and you really do need someone to talk to about it.

There are many youth help phone lines who will help support you, just have a look on the net, or in your local phone book.  The samaritans will also help support you in low times - and are not just there for suicidal people - but for anyone who is struggling with life like yourself.  Some of these support lines, even have a walk in consultation chat office, where you can go in for an anonymous talk about the difficulties you are having.

If you have any close friends, or uncles or aunts you feel safe with, perhaps you could talk to them - most people will not judge you, most people want to help.

And you are right to be worried about taking pills to help with your stress - if you start taking them now, you may be taking them for a long time.

You might find a good relaxation or self hypnosis tape, and playing it every day may help you a great deal.  There are many on the net, or you may like to look at mine at:

Getting lots of exercise will also help burn off some of the stress and help take your mind off things.

I hope this is helpful, if you need anything else, just let me know.

Warm regards,

James
P.S. good luck.
