Question
We are building a deck near a river and the ground is usually wet and moving. The question I have is regarding the cement footing vs the floating footing to avoid movement.

Answer
Hello Melissa,
I don't think I follow you what is a floating footing? I once built a deck near a creek that flooded often, and we use concrete footings but when we set the 6x6 support posts in the concrete we first drilled holes in the end sides of the 6x6 and slid rebar through the holes. We then attached the deck with hidden joist hangers post straps and screwed the decking down, I guarantee that deck is flood proof, water run right over it like it was a rock.
