Question I would like to know what sort of material I would need to use to build a fire pit in set in my deck so as to not burn the deck?
Answer Hello Penny,
If your deck is low enough to the ground you would need to remove the decking in the area and pour a slab under the deck where you want the pit. Then use fire brick and regular brick to form up the pit you desire.Creating a bowl effect as you build up.Stop the last row of brick about 5" above the decking board height. Now add any framing you might require and deck up to the brick. You could still have popping embers fly off the fire so I would always be careful.Contact a brick mason and they will build you one anyway you want it. Hope this has helped some.
