Question
Hi -- Do you have experience or thoughts on the possibility of constructing a perglola using composite deck material?

Answer
Hello Jay,
I personally have not built a composite pergola but I have seen it done. You can purchase composite sleeves for going around posts to hide the wood. Also you can buy solid composites for structure framing, however the cost is way to high. Composites I have worked with don't hold up very well under the heat of the summer, they can bend and droop easier. But I have seen rafters for the arbor cut using two pieces of composite decking that was glued together. You can search the Internet and find structural grade composites but they will more than likely have to be special ordered. Good Luck!
