Decorating & Furniture/area rug size

Question
I have a family room that will soon have hardwood flooring. I'm wondering what size area rug I will need. The room dimensions are 15' wide and 21' long.

Answer
Hi Janet,
The size of the rug all depends on the seating arrangement in your family room.An area rug should anchor the conversation area.  At a minimum it should be 5x8.  Your room is long enough to have more than one function.  If so, a rug would designate each area.  You may have a larger one in the main seating area (8x10) then a 5x8 in the say study or music area. Please let me know if you need further assistance.
