Question I have a white, textured ceiling with a smooth border around the perimeter which currently is painted the same colour as the walls. I am going to paint one wall a darker colour..my question is..what colour should the border be?..leave as is?..paint it white to match the rest of the ceiling?..thanks for your help...
Answer Greetings Bonnie,
Thank you for your question. Below are a few solutions that you may select from to help solve your painting dilemma.
1- If the surrounding border is not wide enough (at least 4-6 inch or decorative) to make an architectural or design statement I would suggest painting the accent wall and border the same color.
2- If the border is wide and decorative you can leave it the same color as the other walls and paint below it the new color.
3- Paint the existing border white like the ceiling...this could give a look of crown molding.
4- Remove or Wallpaper over the existing border with vinyl to vinyl paste...the new border should be at least a 1/2 inch wider than the existing border
4A: Select a paintable-decorative border. Paint it white to create a look of crown molding. In the future you can paint the walls with out every having to change the border. They sell paintable wallpaper/borders at Lowes, Sherwin Williams, on-line or your local wallpaper store)
4B: Remove or wallpaper over the existing border with a new decorative border that complements both the wall colors and your existing decor.
