About Jenny Wojcik
Expertise Decor: I've written about it, planned it, designed it and colored it, and I've never stopped loving it. It's not what you spend, or who made it, it's how it makes you feel.
I take pride in assisting people with virtually every aspect of making their homes more comfortable and livable on a budget! As an advisor and decorator, I have assisted many do-it-yourselfers in the quest for developing their own unique home style.
Experience College, advertising, public relations, marketing, free-lance writing and a plethora of creative endeavors have led me here. A stint at a law firm taught me humility too, but I really never scratched the creative itch until I became an Interior Decorator. Some three thousand questions ago, I wondered if I could really help. I think now that I am, and it feels great to give something back.

Question
Hello, we are renovating our basement, we have chestnut(behr)walls, one wall will be used as tv screen for our projector(what color other then white would you suggest)? Also notice ceiling drops down to cover pipes etc-should we paint that the wall color or what do you suggest? Finally baseboards what color would you go with(need to go on the cheaper end)thinking maybe paint chocolate brown as my husband doesn't think the pine brings out the floor and walls, he feels it blends too much? Should we paint the wall a different color? Please help!! Thanks much!
Answer Shannon,
Thanks for the photo. I think the wall color is fine. I'd paint all the built-ins (bookshelves, moldings etc.) in white to make it stand out. Also - if you have soffits that cover pipes, paint them the same color as the surface they are on. For instance, if the soffit is covering a pipe on the ceiling and the ceiling is white, paint the soffit white. If the soffit is covering pipes on the wall, paint that soffit the wall color.
Remember to paint all moldings in a semi-gloss or gloss for durability.
Regards,
Jenny
PS: Painting moldings in a dark color puts all the color emphasis on the molding rather than the wall. If you want to use chocolate brown in the space, paint the bookshelves in brown and the base moldings in white.
