Decorating & Furniture/kitchen color

I have white kitchen cabinets, white appliances and a white floor.  Currently my walls are a bright yellow with some black accidents.  I've been looking at new kitchen counters and I'm having trouble deciding between black and a brown and black which both look great with my yellow walls.  I'm concerned about which would be the most neutral - what other wall colors would go great with them and which would be best for resale.

Hi Kathy,

My thought is to go with a black and brown counter.  Brown tends to be the more neutral choice, as it's warmer and less high contrast with white.  While black and white are a classic combination, they can also be seen as stark or harsh if not softened with warmer tones (like your yellow walls).  Choosing a patterned counter that incorporates black, brown, and varying shades of the two ensure a neutral combination that you can pull many colours out of for walls and accessories.

Because you've got such a neutral palette, most wall colours are going to work.  Neutrals like beige, soft gold, chocolate brown and warm grays will work, as well as bolder choices like the sunny yellow you currently have, red, olive green, blue-gray, etc.  For resale purposes, neutral is always best.

Hope this helps! Good luck!
