Decorating & Furniture/Hand rubbed black paint finish

Hi I am planning on refinishing a dining room set and would like to attempt a hand rubbed black paint finish - ala Pottery Barn look. Can you offer some advice on how to achieve this? Thanks. Maria

After the piece is stripped and sanded, you can achieve a hand rubbed finish by applying the paint via a "dry brush" technique.  It's an art rather than a science, but if you dry your brush between strokes, then hand rub the surface (immediately) with a soft, dry cloth, you'll get the hang of it in no time.  Just remember, a little on, a lot off.  You can always add more paint.

You might want to visit a paint store or home improvement center for painting tips, of visit

College, advertising, public relations, marketing, free-lance writing and a plethora of creative endeavors have led me here. Some three thousand questions ago, I wondered if I could really help. Obviously, I'm still here and still taking your questions. God Bless You!
