Decorating & Furniture/Kitchen paint color

Hi Benjamin:

We are in the process of a full kitchen remodel and are looking at paint colors for the room.  Not really sure what paint color to go with so hopefully you can offer some suggestions.  We have chose a maple cabinet with a ginger glaze.  The ginger glaze makes the maple slightly darker (close to a beech tone) and also adds dark brown accents to the inserts and cutouts.  (Cabinet image can be found at:  As a countertop we chose to go with uba-tuba granite and the ceramic floor tiles are a light beige tone with peach and green accents.  Any recommendations on which paint colors we should look at that would work well on the walls?

Hi Christian,

Thanks for writing. Well, the good news is, is that you really have a nice open slate from where to choose a color. Your cabinetry, counters and flooring will just about go with anything!

If you are looking for color, a deap red is always a great look in the kitchen. Even if you don't think you are going to want a lot of color, the kitchen is the place to use it if you want to be daring because so much of your wall space is taken by the cabinets and you don't end up using that much color on the walls.

For a rich warm look without the blast of color from a red, go with a nice olive green tone or even a golden yellow.

For cool tones, try the peach that is in your tile or even pick up on that green from your tile.

Have fun! And as always, please feel free to send pictures of your completed project to anytime.
